Life Education Queensland

Life Education Queensland (LEQ) is a community-based, independent organisation at the front line of positive and preventative drug and health education. Approximately 115,000 children take part in the preschool, primary and secondary programs each year. Helping young people make informed decisions about drugs and their health is at the heart of the program, which is driven by the popular Life Education mascot Harold the giraffe.

Specialist educators utilising their experience and training work with schools to develop programs to support the provision of best-practice drug education. Sessions are age specific and sequential with written and electronic resources provided to support both students and teachers in the delivery of ongoing drug education in their classroom. A visit to the mobile Life Education van facilitates the development of students' knowledge and skills to identify risks and make informed decisions.

In 2010, 98% of teachers recommended their school re-book the Life Education program.

“Having Harold and his team visit the school, providing our students with a ‘hands-on’ and ‘multimedia’ presentation that promotes healthy living and positive choices, is recognised as being of great value” Principal Durack SS

“The Educator was very good at motivating and guiding the children through the activities.  All activities were at the appropriate level of learning and enabled the children to be engaged in the learning experience.  Most of all, the children had FUN learning!.”  Year 1 Teacher St Ignatius School.

“The Life Education program has been an integral part of our Health & Physical Education curriculum for a number of years.  All students of Our Lady of Rosary attend the sessions each year as they provide valuable information presented in an appropriate age related manner”. – Principal Our Lady of the Rosary School

“The Life Education program enhances the ‘Health and Wellbeing’ component of our curriculum, as it provides up to date information about health and drug issues at age appropriate levels.” – Upper Coomera State College.

“The underlying message of the Life Education program, whereby children learn to truly appreciate the wonder of the human body and therefore to treat it with respect, whether it be their own or someone else, is very powerfully presented.  There is no other such program available for Primary school students”. – Principal Tewantin SS
