Drug and Health Education that empowers young Australians to make safe choices.

South Australia

Congratulations Jo!

jo_vaughanJo Vaughan, Education Manager for Life Education South Australia, was the recipient of The Ted Noffs Award at the 2010 Gold Harold Awards.

The Award is given to recognise the outstanding contribution of a Life Education Staff Member.

Jo began her time with Life Education in the Western Suburbs of Adelaide. Eight years ago she became the Education Manager for Life Education SA and for the last 4 years has worked part-time as the Curriculum Writer for Life Education Australia.

We spoke to Jo and asked her to talk about her time with Life Education:

“My 15 years with Life Education has been fun, exciting and challenging. My motivation to work for Life Education is the fact that I believe we have a fantastic opportunity to positively influence children and young people to be happy and healthy adults for the future. I hope that my contributions at both state and national level will help our most valuable resource – children.”

Kangaroo Island seeing double

Life Education is currently undertaking it's annual visit to Kangaroo Island.

Each year we visit the students on the Island, that's about 600 students in total with our visit lasting about 3 weeks.

Educator Bob Morcom has taken the mobile classroom to the Island again this year, with the van transport gererously sponsored by Sealink.
Bob also decided to take our Harold Express van and Harold himself, so the Island will certainly be aware of Healthy Harold's presence in February!

Many thanks go to Garry Elliott, the local policeman on the Island for his assistance and to Wally Meakin for towing the classroom around the Island.

Variety Supports LESA

varietyVariety – the children’s charity have recently given Life Education South Australia a Grant for $11,000 for the purchase of new laptop computers. The computers have been purchased for use by our educators for delivery of our programs. Previously we have purchased laptops when our old laptops have ceased to function so to have all of our educators with the same type of laptop all updated at the same time is a luxury.

Variety – the children’s charity have also given us funds to support disadvantaged children.  An amount of $25,000 will be used to subsidise our program to selected schools in the 2010 school year. The subsidy at $4 per student means that over 6,000 children will have access to our health & drug education resource.

Life Education South Australia would like to thank Variety on behalf of all the children that will benefit from our programs.
